On 6 December 2021, the 24th Beijing Hong Kong Economic Cooperation Symposium was held online at the China National Convention Center in Beijing. Chen Jining, Mayor of Beijing, and Carrie Lam, Chief Executive of Hong Kong SAR, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches in Beijing and Hong Kong respectively. China Tianying was invited to attend the opening ceremony and the Green Finance Symposium.
In the speech, Chen Jining said that Beijing will strengthen communication with Hong Kong and deepen cooperation in the construction of an international science and innovation center; develop digital economy and build an international consumption center; carry out cooperation in R&D of technologies and new infrastructure; deepen exchanges and mutual understanding, and promote integrated urban management; better opening up and promote high-quality cooperation in the "Belt and Road" initiative.
Carrie Lam said that the key industries developed in Beijing are highly compatible with the development direction of Hong Kong. It is hoped that Beijing and Hong Kong will strengthen exchanges in higher education, innovation and technology, deepen cooperation in life and health care technology, promote the joint construction of more research laboratories between universities in the two places, and jointly promote the development of green finance, share experience and explore room for cooperation on the issuance of green bonds.
In the afternoon of December 6, a number of industry representatives gave keynote speeches on "Opportunities and Trends of Cooperation between Hong Kong and Beijing under Double Carbon Targets" at the financial cooperation session, discussing the opportunities for cooperation in supporting the research and development, promotion and industrialization of green technologies, as well as addressing climate change and achieving sustainable development.
At present, green finance has become an important element of China's supply-side structural reform. Hong Kong has developed many pioneering practices in the field of green finance, while Beijing is actively building a global financial center for green finance and sustainability.
